EMERGE (Engendering Men: Evidence on Routes to Gender Equality) was a two-year project to build an openly accessible basis of evidence, lessons and guidance for working with boys and men to promote gender equality.

The project has produced a range of key resources and guides, as follows:

Practice brief: Why and how should we work with men and boys to build gender equality? This EMERGE practice brief draws on eight case studies from around the world to demonstrate the diversity of promising approaches employed in differing contexts and sectors, with the aim of providing a broader understanding of why and how to develop programmes and strategies for working with men and boys to transform behaviours, attitudes, and institutions. The brief addresses how to target initiatives with men and boys, how to design a successful initiative, and what challenges and future priorities exist in the field. The practice brief is available here.

Policy briefing: This policy briefing makes the case for re-framing policy on gender equality in order to more productively factor in men and boys, and suggests actions and approaches that policy makers can take to do this. The policy briefing is available here.

Evidence review: This evidence report critically assesses trends and shifts in engaging men and boys for gender equality over the past 20 years. It explores successful policies and programs and implications for best practice, as well as future directions for promoting men’s and boys’ support for gender equality, across a variety of priority thematic areas. The evidence brief is available here.

Other outputs from the programme include a set of eight case studies and accompanying stories of change, a selection of tools and guides on working with men and boys for gender equality, and a blog series.
