Guidelines for contributions

XY is keen to expand the range and number of articles on our website. Please feel most welcome to contribute your articles, writings and talks to XY. Your piece is likely to be published if it follows the following simple guidelines.

Subject matter/content

Contributions should be focused on the areas of men, masculinities, gender and/or sexuality. However, given the very wide range of topics and issues which are related to these areas, there is a very wide range of material which is relevant. Look at the existing articles on the website to see what kind of material we publish.

Style

Contributions can be written in a range of styles: personal, political, and/or academic / theoretical. Your writing does not have to be academic in tone. On the other hand, academic writing also is welcome.

Length

Articles of any length are welcome. Articles generally should be at least 600 or 700 words long. Pieces which are longer, e.g. the length of a book chapter or a journal article, also are welcome.

Material which has already been published

You are most welcome to contribute material which has already been published elsewhere, e.g. in a newsletter, magazine, newspaper, journal, or book. XY will include an acknowledgement of the source of the piece.

Format

Please send contributions as e-mail attachments. Please save them as either Microsoft Word (Macintosh) or Word for Windows (PC) documents. Please do not send material in the following formats: html, PDF.

Politics

The XY website has three broad guidelines: it is pro-feminist, male-positive, and it encourages respectful discussion. Material which breaks these guidelines will not be published. If you wish to read more on these guidelines, refer to the guidelines for the profem-l mailing list and the article "Three principles for men".

Copyright

You retain copyright of all work you send to XY. If a person or organisation wishes to reproduce an article of yours which is on the XY website, their request will be passed on to you as you retain the rights to your article.

Language

Contributions should be written in English. If you wish to publish material written in a language other than English, please also provide an English translation, so that we can publish both the article and an English translation.
